Adopt-a-Towboat

Adopt-a-Towboat is a year-long educational program which matches up a real towboat and its crew with a classroom in the region. The local towboat companies commit one of their vessels as an off-site,  teaching  "classroom" as the students learn about the industry and its impact on American commerce. The students interact with the working boat as it traverses our nation’s rivers. They partner with phone calls, text messages, emails and personal visits. Teachers are provided a curriculum for the 9-month program which includes study in all the disciplines required by Core Content.  The students also enjoy a visit to the River Discovery Center as a benefit of participating in the program.
