W.N. “Buck” Lay was a quiet man but his dedication and commitment to the success of the River Discovery Center was heard loudly with the announcement of a major gift to the center.  At the center’s annual breakfast for major supporters, Keith Lay, Buck’s son, announced that his father left a $250,000 endowment to the center.  According to Keith, “Dad wanted to leave a lasting legacy to the River Discovery Center and talked with his advisors about something that would continue in perpetuity.   Dad had a heart for the River Discovery Center and for Paducah and this allowed him to continue to help the Center and by doing so, help Paducah.”

Executive Director, Julie Harris, says “Buck was around from the earliest days of the center and was very actively involved in helping make it a success.   He believed in our mission and we are profoundly honored by this gift.”

Lay chose to leave his gift through the Community Foundation of West Kentucky.  The foundation keeps the principle and the River Discovery Center will receive the interest annually.
