Skippers

​Skippers is sponsored by Ingram Barge Company and is FREE to all 3rd & 4th grade classes. The Skippers program includes a tour of the center's exhibits, time in the navigation simulator, a classroom session, and a hands-on activity with a mariner. Special emphasis is placed on the towing industry and how it affects our nation's economy. This program meets STEAM requirements and 3rd & 4th grade core content. Standards can be found at the link below.

Animal encounters program field trip educational River Discovery Center Paducah Kentucky

Animal Encounters

Animal Encounters is for Kindergarten through 3rd graders. RDC partners with the Nature Station at Land Between the Lakes to teach children about animals in our riparian environment. This program meets Core Content for K-3rd grade and includes an animal habitat activity, and animal adaption activity, and a hands-on experience with live animals. Standards can be found at the link below.

Price: $7 per child or $280 minimum for the group

Mound Builders

Mound Builders is for 4th or 5th grade students. Students come to the center for a 3-hour program that meets many Core Content standards. The experience teaches students about our indigenous peoples incorporating a hands-on touch table, a math lesson with a hands-on skill and an archaeological investigation involving tools and scientific "dig" methods. Mammals

Mammals is a lesson for our furry friends who live in or near the river. Students will learn about the animals sleep and eating habits and their social interactions, if they have any. Students will be given a chance to touch the fur/hair of a variety of mammals from this region. The program will include a hands-on activity and a tour of the museum.

Price: $5 per child or $125 minimum for the group

Insects

Insects are the most numerous category of animals on the earth and have a variety of fascinating critters to study. Students can learn about anything from the rainbow sheen of a beetle to the life cycles of the Monarch butterfly. The program will include a hands-on activity and a tour of the museum.

Under the River

​It's easy to see the river's surface, but what's going on underneath it? This lesson teaches of the abundant animals, mountains of sediments, unusual plants, levels of water, and the interactions between it all that shapes a river. The program will include a hands-on activity and a tour of the museum.

Price: $5 per child or $125 minimum for the group

River Exploration

Learn about the bold, brace and determined people who explored and mapped the nation's waterways system and what caused them to venture int the unknown. Students will also learn about navigational tools used in the past and test their understanding of modern day technology and how it is used on boats today. The program will include a hands-on activity and a tour of the museum.
