Skippers

​Skippers is an educational offering for all area 3rd graders. This program is sponsored by Ingram Barge Company and is FREE to all 3rd grade classes. The Skippers program includes a tour of the center's exhibits, time in the navigation simulator, a classroom session, and a hands-on activity with a mariner. Special emphasis is placed on the towing industry and how it affects our nation's economy. Students will take home a personalized certificate of completion and a finished art project. Students are divided into small groups and are rotated through the different stations. This program meets STEAM requirements and 3rd grade core content. 
Skippers meets the following standards: 

Animal Encounters

Animal Encounters is a 3-hour program for 2nd graders. RDC partners with the Nature Station at Land Between the Lakes to teach children about animals in our riparian environment. The students are divided into rotations as they visit the various stations. This program meets Core Content for second grade and includes and animal habitat activity, and animal adaption activity, and a hands-on experience with live animals.  
Animal Encounters meets the following standards: 

Mound Builders

Mound Builders is an off-site classroom program for
4th or 5th grade students in partnership with school districts. Students come to the center for a 3-hour program that meets Core Content standards in science, mathematics, economics, history, social science, arts, and humanities. The experience teaches students about our indigenous peoples incorporating a hands-on touch table, a math lesson with a hands-on skill and an archaeological investigation involving tools and scientific "dig" methods.
